Morning: Screenprinting Principles
The day begins with a screenprinting exercise that not only teaches about colour, layers and registration but also techniques on how to use a squeegee.
After the first exercise, participants get to choose their first design to print, using the stencils provided, on to a range of different papers, plus learning to how to mix the paint to use in the process.
Afternoon: Botanical Screenprinting
After lunch, Jekka will lead you on a guided tour of her Herbetum and Herb Garden, home to over 400 different herb varieties. You’ll see first-hand the variety of herbs we grow, discover planting combinations and view the diversity of colour and textures that has influenced Hannah’s own artwork.
The afternoon concludes with a printing another design. Experimenting with colour combinations, learning how to print a gradient and learning how to use the layers to create dynamic and colourful prints. Plus, lots of advice and guidance when things go wrong, or how we like to term it ‘happy accidents!’
By the end of the day, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to start screenprinting at home; plus, you will leave with all your prints and creations from the days workshop.
Read about Hannah McVicar, Printmaker in her blog, where she describes what you will learn in the day and her passion for her craft.
