At Jekka's we aim to inspire people to grow and use herbs as well as to gain knowledge about the power of herbs. We are delighted with the great responses we receive to our Master Classes, Open Days and Gardens. We are continually developing our website with new seeds, blogs mail order kits and herb boxes, in 2023 we are running the second Jekka's HerbFest and we are building a large culinary and medicinal Herb Garden at the herb farm in South Gloucestershire. We are growing our plans for 2023 and are looking for passionate people to join our team.
As part of a small team you will work on a large variety of tasks including developing and using skills in propagation of an ever expanding herb collection, to working with leading landscapers growing for their RHS Chelsea gardens. See here, for some of the gardens we have completed.
Jekka's is unique in the fact that we propagate and sow most of our collection of over 400 culinary & medicinal herbs on our farm in South Gloucestershire (see how to find us here).

Full-time Horticulturist
The interest and demand for herbs is growing and as a result we are looking for another full-time role for a qualified horticulturalist.
About the role:
Fantastic opportunity for a dedicated, passionate plants person to join the team at a highly specialist, leading herb nursery. The horticultural team are dedicated to the care and maintenance of our very wide variety of herbs. The applicant needs to have an understanding of the fundamental horticulture skills and to be keen to learn and develop in a nursery environment.
Day to day tasks vary with the seasons and the applicant needs to be both flexible and adaptable to meet the requirements of the farm. Typical tasks include potting and sowing seeds and ensuring the herbs are correctly maintained by watering and cleaning. The applicant will also support the other areas of the farm, such as Mail order, Open Days and Herb Experiences.
Essential:
- Passion for plants and a desire to learn. We grow over 400 different types of herbs and each herb is different, not only their Latin but how they grow and are maintained;
- Pro-active, flexible and adaptable as every-day could be different depending on the weather or events that are happening from master classes to flower shows;
- Eye for detail, which is essential for watering, propagating herbs and spotting pest and disease;
- Physically fit and keen to work outdoors in all weathers as you will need to lift 40L bags of compost, push trolleys and carry trays of plants;
- We are situated down a country lane, so own transport is essential.
Desirable:
- Previous horticultural experience (ideally 3 years + in a relevant field);
- Previous experience working in a commercial nursery;
- Experience in propagation, potting and watering;
- A good knowledge of pests and diseases;
- Working with customers in sales and support;
- RHS level 2 (preferably 3) or equivalent;
- Working in a family business.
Working hours: 39 hours per week and must be prepared to be flexible to meet operational and visitor requirements. Includes weekend working.
Contract: Permanent position.
Interview process: Successful applicants will have a phone interview with Jekka followed by an on-site interview including meeting the team.
Salary: Pay according to experience.
