Herb gardens have been part of our heritage for thousands of years; from their early use as sources of medicine to their essential place in today’s kitchens. During this full-day master class, you’ll learn how to design, plant, and care for a thriving herb garden that suits your space, lifestyle, and growing conditions.
Morning: Inspiration & Design Principles
The day begins with an interactive lecture and discussion on herb garden design, drawing on Jekka’s award-winning RHS displays and her experience advising gardens around the world, from Japan and the Caribbean to Malaysia. You’ll explore planting combinations, soil preparation, layout ideas, and practical maintenance techniques.
Afternoon: The Herbetum & Your Own Design
After lunch, Jekka will lead you on a guided tour of her Herbetum and Herb Garden, home to over 400 different herb varieties. You’ll see first-hand how different herbs grow, discover planting solutions for varying climates, and learn how to manage pests, diseases, and environmental changes.
The afternoon concludes with a collaborative session where you can share and discuss your own garden plans with Jekka and fellow participants, gaining personalised advice and inspiration to take home.
By the end of the day, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to design your own beautiful and functional herb garden; whether it’s a small urban space, a kitchen border, or a larger garden sanctuary.
