Discover the wonders of the beehive and how you can keep honey bees in your own garden!

This one-day course will introduce the important basics of beekeeping to anyone thinking about keeping bees . You will learn about the incredible lifecycle of the honey bee, how they pollinate our flowers and crops, and what is necessary to successfully keep happy, healthy bees. You will find out about the different kinds of beehive as well as all of the basic equipment and techniques needed to keep bees and harvest your own honey.

We will visit the beehives at the herb farm with a chance to handle the bees and find the queen.

Whether you want to improve the pollination of your garden crops, produce your own honey and wax, help preserve our vulnerable pollinators, or just learn about these fascinating creatures, this fun and highly informative day is the perfect opportunity to find out more.

Richard Rickitt is co-editor of BeeCraft, the UK's best-selling beekeeping magazine.
Richard has been keeping bees for more than twenty years and, as well as his own bees, keeps hives for a number of commercial and private clients. He is beekeeper at Westonbirt, the National Arboretum, and teaches beekeeping courses around the UK. He frequently speaks on the subject here, abroad, and on radio and TV, making him one of the UK's best-known beekeepers. He has written hundreds of articles on the subject and is author of  Beekeeping for Gardeners (Bloomsbury) as well as Jekka's blog, Gardening for Bees.

He will be happy to answer all your questions about honey bees, wild bees and how to garden for bees.
