- Caring for your tools
New for Jekka's but the standard issue in Japan, where these are considered the every day, go-to choice for pruning.
Similar to the Niwaki GR Lightweight Secateurs, the Mainichi Secateurs come with a big chunky catch at the bottom, which we like. This gives it a crisp action that’s easy to use, even with cold wet hands or muddy gloves, and the spring is well secured and never accidentally pops out. As with all Japanese secateurs, these have a simple direct action, resulting in a very clean, efficient cut.
Yellow grips stand out in the garden, and are great for when they end up in the compost heap. Suitable for cuts of 10 -15mm, depending on plant type and what you had for breakfast.

We are massive fans of Japanese gardening tools and we are pleased to be able to provide a range of our favourites from Niwaki.
As anyone who has been to one of Jekka's Open Days knows, it is very important to correctly maintain your tools and Jekka advises using the infamous diamond sharpener along with Camellia Oil and Crean Mate as demonstrated in Jekka's video.
