Autumn is in the air!

Autumn is in the air. With the sudden drop in temperature and brisk winds, the change in season has been noticeable. We have been watching the green finches feasting on the seeds of our Teasel plants and, just this week, we have started covering our newly potted (8cm pots) herbs in fleece, to ward off the cold night air.

With each dry morning, we seize the opportunity to harvest seeds from our herb garden. Why do we collect seeds so diligently? Because in a world where climates shift and weather patterns can still surprise us, safeguarding our seeds helps to preserve the future survival of our herbs and plants.

Did you know storing seeds is an ancient tradition? The Egyptians honoured their dead with coriander seeds and Romans once fulfilled their civic duties with payments of Fennel seeds.

Are you inspired? We have written a Jekka's guide on harvesting seeds and we have Jekka's Master class on 'Seed cleaning and growing herbs in autumn.' Jekka's master class will provide you a wealth of information, from seed cleaning to root cuttings as well as looking after your herbs in autumn and an ever changing climate.

The Bees-news

Our Mints in Jekka's Herbetum are in flower providing nectar for our hoverflies.

Hoverflies are wonderful pollinators to have in the garden as they are partial to eating aphids!

Find some herbs that attract pollinators in Jekka's Guide.
