The evolution of Jekka's
For more than forty years, Jekka’s has been shaped by a deep love of herbs: growing them, studying them, sharing their stories, and welcoming others to discover their beauty and uses; both in the garden and the kitchen. See our history online.

Jekka's Herb Farm, now the site of Jekka's Herb Garden
What began as Jekka’s Herb Farm gradually became something wider and was encompassed in our rebranding as Jekka’s. Jekka’s is a place of learning, inspiration, and community centred around medicinal and culinary herbs. Generations of visitors, gardeners, cooks, and herbal enthusiasts from around the world have walked through the herb farm’s gates, attended master classes, read the books, and carried herbs into their own homes and lives.
We are profoundly grateful for that shared journey.

Entering a new chapter
As we look to the future, we are gently entering a new chapter in the life of Jekka’s.
From this summer, we will step away from large-scale plant production. This decision has been shaped both by practical realities and by a clear sense of where the true heart of Jekka’s now lies; not in the scale of what we grow, but in the knowledge, experience, and inspiration that herbs offer.
Importantly, this does not mean an end to growing herbs at Jekka’s. Herbs remain at the living heart of Jekka’s, and Jekka herself will never stop sowing seeds, taking cuttings, nurturing plants, and tending the collection she has built over a lifetime. Alongside the wider Herb Garden and Jekka’s Herbetum, this includes the Jekka’s™ varieties of herbs that she has carefully selected and propagated over the years.
‘I have always believed herbs connect us: to the soil, to our wellbeing, and to each other. The nursery may be changing, but my hands will stay in the earth, and Jekka’s will always be a place where herbs are grown, shared and loved.’ — Jekka McVicar, VMH

Living book of Herbs
Sustaining this living body of knowledge and these curated herbs, while sharing their stories with future generations, sits at the centre of this new chapter.
This change allows us to focus fully on what matters most:
- Teaching and sharing through Master Classes and Discovery Team Days
- Welcoming visitors during Group Visits, Herb Days and Open Days in Jekka’s Herbetum and Jekka’s Herb Garden.
- Continuing talks and lectures across the country
- Offering seeds, tools, and carefully chosen herb products through our online shop
Come and visit us this year! Our first open days are on the 27th and 28th March or see our events calendar for more dates.

Jekka's Master Classes
Alongside this, we are beginning to explore thoughtful new ways of sharing Jekka’s lifetime of knowledge more widely. This includes the development of online courses and digital learning, allowing people everywhere to learn from Jekka’s experience.
We are also considering carefully stewarded ways for Jekka’s curated herbs and the Jekka’s name to continue growing in the world through future partnerships. Always with great care for quality, integrity, and the spirit of the collection.
We warmly welcome conversations with individuals or organisations who bring experience in digital education, horticultural licensing, or values-led brand stewardship, and who share a genuine respect for herbs, learning, and legacy. Please contact by emailing sales@jekkas.com or using our webform.
Horticultural equipment available
As we step away from large-scale plant production, a number of pots, trays, and other nursery items that have supported the growing side of Jekka’s will no longer be needed.
Over the coming months, selected horticultural equipment will be made available for purchase, allowing these practical tools to continue their working life with other growers, gardeners, schools, and community projects. Details will be shared on our website and through our newsletters. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
Focus on Herb Experiences
Importantly, this is not an ending but the start of a new chapter.
Jekka’s continues to grow in the way that matters most: through shared knowledge, carefully tended herbs, inspired gardeners, and a lasting love of plants and people.
We look forward to welcoming you, whether in the garden, at a talk, through a master class, or online, into this next chapter.
Jekka’s now moves forward as the UK centre for herb knowledge and herb experiences.
