Jekka's Marquee

Jekka's Marquee is where the cookery demonstrations and presentations will be occurring. This is a chance for visitors to watch the speakers practice their craft and hear handy tips that they can take home.

10:30 - 11:15 Jekka McVicar- From a Thyme in a wardrobe to HerbFest (1984 - 2021)

Awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour in Horticulture by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), 62 RHS Gold medals for her Herb exhibits, is Vice President of the RHS and has written 8 books, including Jekka’s Complete Herb Book that has sold over 1 million copies world-wide. She is well known for her herb expertise and designing herb gardens for hospitals, restaurants and private homes.

11:45 - 12:30 Mark Diacono - Herbs: A Taste of the Unexpected

Mark is lucky enough to spend most of his time eating, growing, writing and talking about food. He has written ten books, including his new book, Sour, published in 2019. A Year at Otter Farm and A Taste of the Unexpected both won Food Book of the Year. Known for growing everything from Szechuan pepper to pecans to Asian pears, Mark's refreshing approach to growing and eating has done much to inspire a new generation to grow some of what they eat.

13:00 - 13:45 Romy Gill

Romy Gill is a British/Indian chef, food writer, author and broadcaster. Romy is one of the chefs on the new series of Ready Steady Cook on BBC One and is writing her next book The Himalyan Trail - Kashmir to Leh. Published by Hardie Grant, out in April 2022. She was the owner and head chef at Romy’s Kitchen in our local town, Thornbury and, in 2016, she was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s 90th birthday honours list.

14:15 - 15:00 Naomi Slade - Orchards – Past, present and future

Naomi Slade is a leading writer, award-winning show garden designer and gardening consultant. A regular magazine and radio contributor, she has a column in Garden News and her six books to date include the acclaimed Plant Lover’s Guide to Snowdrops, An Orchard Odyssey and Hydrangeas; Lilies is out in May. With a background in biology and a keen interest in the environment, Naomi’s extensive collection of apple trees and boutique apple juice enterprise is a celebration of flavour, heritage and sustainability.

15:30 - 16:15 Alex Noble - Projects and Plants

Alexandra Noble, is an award winning garden designer. We grew the herbs for her RHS People's Choice Award winning garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2018

Candide Gardeners' Corner

Informal chats led by Kate Durr with experts in their fields. Candide Gardeners' Corner will hold a number of "in conversation" sessions throughout the day. Pop in and ask the expert a question to help your allotment burst or garden bloom.
