This is a genus comprising of numerous species that are very diverse in appearance and from many different parts of the world. They are found as far afield as Greenland to Western Asia, although the majority grow in the Mediterranean region. This ancient herb has had a variety of uses: the Egyptians used the oil for embalming; the Greeks used it in their baths and as an incense in temples; and the Romans used it to purify their rooms. Explore our collection below, which include the popular Jekka's Red Eye Thyme as well as the cook's favourite, Lemon Thyme. Read Jekka's Guide to Thyme for more information.
We have been lovingly trialling, growing and propagating herb plants on the herb farm at Jekka’s for over 30 years. We follow sustainable, organic and environmentally sensitive practices and all of our herbs are grown for the British garden. You can read more about our Sustainability Approach in one of Jekka's Blogs or in Jekka's Guide to Growing Herbs in a Changing Climate.
