Support a specialist nursery this September

In Jekka's scribehound article "where have all the flowers gone" she made a plea for everyone to support a specialist nursery in 2025.

Specialist nurseries are dedicated growers but also custodians of plant diversity, stewards of horticultural passion, and a lifeline for pollinating insects, birds, and tiny mammals that thrive on the variety they offer. Visiting one isn’t just about buying a plant; it’s about preserving a way of life and ensuring the survival of unique plant species. You can read Jekka's article through the link below that outlines the decline of the specialist nursery and the number that have closed recently.

Jekka's has been growing, propagating and educating on the use of herbs for 40 plus years. Jekka has amassed a collection of over 400 different medicinal and culinary herbs some of which are endangered; such as the Oysterleaf (Mertensia maritima).

As we come up to our last open day of year, on September 5th & 6th, its a wonderful opportunity to visit the herb farm and learn about herbs whilst, at the same time, supporting everything we have done as a specialist nursery. Tickets can be bought through the link at the end of this newsletter.

South Gloucestershire Beekeepers Association

As with specialist nurseries, it is important to support your local beekeepers and the bees they care and look after. We are avid fans of the South Gloucestershire Beekeepers and the work they do in protecting our little flying friends. Plus they collect amazing honey!

We are delighted that they will be having a stand at our September Open Days where they will sharing their interest in their craft and educate us on the long term future of beekeeping. They will also be selling their recently harvested and jarred honey.

Learn more about the association here and more about gardening for bees through the link below.

September Open Day

If you would like to support a specialist nursery, learn how to care for herbs in the autumn months and come and taste some honey from the South Gloucestershire Beekeepers, then don't miss our last open days of the year on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th September.

Our Open days are a wonderful opportunity to visit the Herb Farm, explore Jekka’s Herbetum and Herb Garden, and meet our knowledgeable team, who will be on hand to help with plant purchases and offer guidance for your own herb-growing journey.

The day is split into two segments with guided tours around Jekka's Herbetum and a Herb Talk by Jekka, included with each ticket. Tickets available through the link below.
